Leaving water bottles in a car can be a fire hazard

A battery technician from Idaho, USA, Dioni Amuchastegui has shared a video warning about the danger of leaving a clear bottle of drinking water in a car on a hot day because a fire can start from it.

The bottle filled with liquid is, in effect, acting like a magnifying glass. It causes light rays to converge. When light rays strike a surface, they cause the surface to heat up. The concentration of strong light can cause a surface to reach incredibly high temperatures, resulting in a fire.

You will learn of how magnifying glasses cause light rays to converge under the topic on lenses. Join our physics tuition classes to learn more about lenses and other interesting topics.
